The Singapore personal finance system, end to end

Set up every layer of your finances in the right order, from cash flow and buffer to protection, CPF, investing, housing, retirement and estate.

Personal finance usually reaches you in pieces: a savings tip here, an insurance pitch there, a friend's stock tip, a CPF headline. Each piece can be sensible on its own and still leave you exposed, because the order is wrong. People invest before they have a buffer, or buy an investment-linked plan before they have basic hospital cover. This course gives you the map of the whole system and the order to build it in. Each module covers one layer, gives you the one setup action for it this month, and points you to the course that goes deeper.

What you'll be able to do

Syllabus

Module 1: Set up your money in the right order

The layers of a personal finance system, the order to build them in, and why protection comes before investing, so every later decision has a place to sit.

Module 2: Make your cash flow run itself

How income turns into take-home pay after CPF, how to set a spending plan from your cash flow statement, and how to automate payday so saving happens before spending.

Module 3: Build an emergency fund that fits your life

How big your emergency fund should be for your job and household, where to keep it so it is safe and quick to reach, and when it is right to use it.

Module 4: Cover the risks that would sink the plan

The four types of insurance that protect most working adults, what the national schemes already cover, and how to find the gaps in your own cover before buying anything.

Module 5: Know what your CPF does for you

What each CPF account is for, how money moves into and out of it, and how CPF fits with housing, healthcare and retirement, so you can read your own balances with confidence.

Module 6: Clear costly debt, then start investing

How to rank your debts and decide which to clear first, then why to invest, where you can hold investments in Singapore and how much to start with once the earlier layers are in place.

Module 7: See where housing and retirement fit

How buying a home and planning for retirement draw on your cash, CPF and borrowing, and the one setup action for each, with pointers to the courses that go deeper.

Module 8: Put your will, nominations and LPA in place

What a will, a CPF nomination, insurance nominations and a Lasting Power of Attorney each do, why you need all of them, and how to get each one done.

Module 9: Run your annual money review

A yearly routine that checks every layer of your system, updates your net worth and cash flow, and sets the actions for the next twelve months.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the course take?

About nine hours across nine modules, including the exercises. Most people finish in three to four weeks, setting up each layer as they go.

I already have some insurance and investments. Is this still useful?

Yes. The course helps you check whether what you have fits together and is in the right order, and the annual review gives you a routine for keeping it that way.

How is this different from Money Foundations, Insurance Decoded and CPF Mastery?

This course is the map: one module per layer with one setup action. Money Foundations: budget, debt, buffer goes deeper on budgeting and debt, Insurance Decoded on insurance, and CPF Mastery: every account and the choices you control on CPF.

Is this financial advice?

No. The course is education and does not replace financial advice. It teaches how the system works and how to decide, and never tells you what to buy. Rates, limits and scheme rules change, so check current figures with the CPF Board, IRAS, MAS and HDB, and speak to a licensed financial adviser about your own situation.
