You will produce a 30-day posting calendar tied to your pillars and backlog.
You now have pillars, a backlog of ideas, a method for hooks and scripts, a finished video and a posting rhythm you can keep. What you do not yet have is a plan that says what goes out on which day. Without one, every posting day starts with the same question, what should I post today, and the answer is often whatever is easiest rather than what the plan needs.
This exercise builds a 30-day posting calendar. It is the plan you will run in lesson 9.4, Your 30-day content sprint. If you built a content calendar in Content and copywriting, lesson 9.4, Build your 30-day content calendar, this one works the same way, focused on short video.
Use whatever tool you will actually open: a spreadsheet, a calendar app, a notes page or a printed sheet on the wall. If you use a sheet, give it these columns: date, day, pillar, idea, format, hook, script status, posted, and a notes column for what happened.
Fill the date column with the 30 days that follow your chosen start date. Mark your posting days according to the rhythm you chose in lesson 6.3, Pick a posting rhythm you can keep for six months.
Priya posts on Tuesdays and Fridays, as an example. Over 30 days that gives her eight or nine posting days, and which of the two it is depends on the weekday she starts on.
For each posting slot, choose a pillar first, then an idea from that pillar in your backlog, then the format from lesson 4.3. Write all three in the row.
Spread the pillars so no single pillar takes over the month, and so teaching, proof and the people all appear, as lesson 2.3 suggested. Avoid running the same pillar three times in a row.
Pick ideas you can actually make in the time. A video that needs a customer's permission, a special location or a cake you are not baking that week belongs later in the month, or in the backlog.
Priya's first two weeks, as an example, ran like this. Tuesday: teaching pillar, "the two-minute check after homework", hands and paper. Friday: proof pillar, "how one student learned to check her working", talking to camera. Tuesday: opinions pillar, "why I tell some parents to stop buying assessment books", text on screen. Friday: people pillar, "what a Saturday class looks like", b-roll with voice-over.
Look at your diary and book one batching session a week, or one a fortnight if you post less often. Put it in as a real appointment, with a time and a place, the same way you would book a client.
In each session, script, film and edit the videos for the coming week or fortnight. Mark each video's script status in the calendar as it moves from idea to scripted to filmed to edited, so you can see at a glance whether you are ahead or behind.
Priya books Sunday afternoons for scripting and Monday mornings before the centre opens for filming and editing. If a Monday is lost, she has two finished videos from the week before to fall back on.
Do not fill every slot. Leave one open slot each week for replies to comments and timely topics.
A reply video answering a question from your comments, as lesson 4.3 described, is often among the most useful posts you can make, and you cannot plan it a month ahead. Timely topics, such as results day, a public holiday that affects delivery, or a question a dozen parents asked this week, also need space. If nothing comes up, use the slot for a strong idea from your backlog.
Before you start, write down what you will look at after 30 days. Decide now, so you do not pick whichever number happens to look good at the end.
Keep it short. Average watch time for each video, saves and shares, profile visits, and any enquiries or messages that came from social. Module nine shows you how to read and compare these. Write one sentence on what you hope to learn, for example which of your pillars leads to the most messages.
When you finish, your calendar should have dates, pillars, ideas and formats in every posting slot except the weekly open ones, your batching sessions booked in your diary, and a short note of what you will measure.
Now build yours: fill your 30-day calendar with dates, pillars, ideas and formats, and book your batching sessions in your diary.
