Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced most of the Budget 2026 CPF changes on 12 February 2026, and the first one takes effect in December 2026. If your mum or dad was born in 1976 or earlier, their CPF could get up to S$1,500 that month. From January 2027, older workers get more CPF from each pay cheque. On 5 March 2026, the Ministry of Health (MOH) added higher MediSave limits for long-term illness and vaccines. A simpler way to invest your CPF follows by 2028. Here's what each change means for your family's money, who gets it and what to check before each date.
Say your dad has less than S$60,000 in CPF retirement savings, and the home on his NRIC has an annual value of S$21,000 or less. He gets the full S$1,500.
If his savings are S$60,000 to under S$110,200, with the same home, he gets S$1,000. If the home's annual value is above S$21,000 and up to S$31,000, he gets S$500 with savings at either level.
Annual value is IRAS's estimate of the yearly rent a home would fetch if it were rented out.
Retirement savings here means the Retirement Account plus any CPF LIFE balance. No Retirement Account yet? Then the Ordinary and Special Account balances are added up instead. The savings and the annual value both count as at 31 December 2025.
S$110,200 is the 2026 Basic Retirement Sum. Our guide to the 2026 CPF retirement sums sets it beside the Full Retirement Sum.
To qualify, your parent must be a Singapore citizen who lives here. They must also own no more than one property as at 31 December 2025. The money goes into their Retirement Account. If they don't have one yet, it goes into their Special Account.
| CPF retirement savings and home | Top-up |
|---|---|
| Under S$60,000, annual value up to S$21,000 | S$1,500 |
| S$60,000 to under S$110,200, annual value up to S$21,000 | S$1,000 |
| Under S$110,200, annual value above S$21,000 and up to S$31,000 | S$500 |
| Annual value above S$31,000 | Not eligible |
If a parent is still working in their late 50s or early 60s, more of each pay cheque goes into CPF from January 2027. CPF Board says the total contribution rate rises by 1.5 percentage points for employees above 55 to 60. For employees above 60 to 65, it rises by 1.0 percentage point.
The rise follows advice from the Tripartite Workgroup on Older Workers. All of the extra goes into the Retirement Account, up to the Full Retirement Sum.
Employers get help with the cost. A CPF Transition Offset covers half of the rise in employer CPF contributions in 2027. It's given automatically, so employers don't have to apply.
Our guide to CPF contribution rates by age shows how much you and your employer pay now in each age band.
If you or a parent sees a doctor regularly for diabetes or high blood pressure, this change touches your MediSave. MOH announced on 5 March 2026 that the MediSave500/700 scheme will become MediSave Chronic and Preventive Care from 1 January 2027. The yearly limits go up at the same time:
MOH says about 915,000 patients use the scheme each year. It pays for outpatient care under the Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP). The CDMP already covers diabetes, high blood pressure, lipid disorders and stroke, among others.
The scheme also pays for the vaccines on the national schedules for adults and children, along with screening mammograms and newborn screenings. You can use it at polyclinics, Specialist Outpatient Clinics and GP clinics approved for MediSave.
From January 2027, the CDMP adds two thyroid disorders, hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. MOH expects more than 53,000 patients with them to benefit. They'll get CHAS subsidies for their care as well as the higher MediSave limit.
If you're in your twenties or thirties, this is the change to watch. CPF Board will bring in a scheme of life-cycle investment products in the first half of 2028, or sooner if it can.
It's aimed at long-term investors who'll accept some risk for the chance of higher returns, CPF Board says. It's also meant for people who find the current CPF Investment Scheme hard to pick from, or who don't want to manage their own investments.
To keep the choice short, CPF Board will pick two to three product providers, each with a small number of options. You don't have to join. CPF Board will work out the product details with the industry and share more later.
Until then, our guide to how the CPF Investment Scheme works covers the rules today. Use our CPF investment limits calculator to see how much you can invest under them.
Here's who each change covers.
Here's what to look at as each date comes up.
Eligible recipients are told in December 2026, the same month the money goes into their CPF. They can log in to the GovBenefits website with Singpass in December 2026 to check.
