Frequently asked questions

What fees do I pay to buy shares on SGX?

Your broker's commission, SGX's trading fee of 0.0075% and clearing fee of 0.0325% of the traded value, and 9% GST on all three. Your broker collects them on the contract note.

Is GST charged on brokerage?

Yes. IRAS says broking commissions are not exempt financial services, so 9% GST applies. SGX also charges GST at the prevailing rate on its trading and clearing fees.

How does a minimum commission work?

You pay the higher of the commission rate times the trade value and the minimum. At 0.08% with a S$2 minimum, any trade below S$2,500 pays S$2, which is a bigger share of a small trade.

Is there stamp duty on SGX shares?

No. IRAS says CDP's electronic transfer of scripless shares listed on SGX is exempt from stamp duty.

What is the difference between a CDP account and a custody account?

A CDP account holds shares in your own name, with no CDP maintenance fee, and you are recognised as the shareholder of a Singapore company. In a custody account your broker holds the shares for you in a sub-account at CDP.

What is the S$0.382 CDP settlement fee?

CDP charges S$0.382 per settlement instruction, GST included, when an exchange trade settles into a depository agent's account. Whether you pay it depends on your broker.

Is the SGX board lot still 100 shares?

Usually. From 5 Oct 2026, stocks SGX selects in its quarterly review trade in lots of 10 shares if priced above S$10 up to S$100, and 1 share above S$100. The first 11 stocks move on 5 Oct 2026.

How much must a share rise to cover my fees?

Add the cost to buy and the cost to sell and divide by the amount invested. On S$3,500 at 0.08% with a S$2 minimum, the round trip costs S$9.16, so the price must rise about 0.26%.
