Compare a Singapore staycation with a short trip abroad for the same nights, from your own prices: ++ hotel rates with service charge and GST, flights with Changi's departure charges and the SAF levy, spending and insurance.
It depends on the room rate and on fares. A staycation has no flights or insurance, but Singapore hotel rates are often high once service charge and GST are added. Put in your own prices for both to compare.
The rate is before a service charge, typically 10%, and 9% GST, which IRAS says is charged on the service charge too. A S$300++ room comes to S$359.70.
For a passenger starting a trip at Changi, S$65.20 per departure from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027: the Passenger Service and Security Fee of S$46.40, the Aviation Levy of S$8.00 and the Airport Development Levy of S$10.80. It rises to S$70.20 from 1 April 2027.
A sustainable aviation fuel levy CAAS charges on tickets sold from 1 October 2026 for flights departing Singapore from 1 January 2027. In economy it is S$1.00 to Southeast Asia, S$2.80 to Northeast Asia, South Asia and Australia, S$6.40 to Europe, the Middle East, Africa and New Zealand, and S$10.40 to the Americas. Premium cabins pay four times as much.
