Frequently asked questions

Do I pay GST on Netflix, Spotify and other streaming services in Singapore?

Yes. Since 1 Jan 2020 GST applies to digital services from overseas providers, including streaming of TV shows and music, once the provider is registered under IRAS's overseas vendor regime. The rate today is 9%.

Why is my streaming bill higher than the price shown?

IRAS notes that a global provider may show a price without Singapore GST and add it once it confirms you live in Singapore. If the price you saw was before GST, you pay 9% more. Set GST to Added at checkout for that plan.

Which overseas providers must charge GST?

Those with global turnover above S$1 million that sell more than S$100,000 a year of remote services or low-value goods to consumers in Singapore. They register under a simplified pay-only regime.

Do local businesses have to show prices with GST?

Yes. A GST-registered business in Singapore must show and quote prices to the public with GST included, on price tags, adverts and websites. A fine of up to S$5,000 can apply.

How do I count a family plan I share?

Enter the full plan price and the number of people splitting it. The calculator shows your share. Check the provider's terms on who can share a plan.

Is a yearly plan cheaper than paying monthly?

Often, if you would keep the service all year. If you only watch for a few months, a monthly plan you cancel in between can cost less. Enter both ways to compare.

Where do the prices on this page come from?

They are examples, not any provider's price. Enter what your own plan shows, since providers change prices and plans often.
