Check your helper's insurance against MOM's S$60,000 medical and accident minimums, add up the yearly cost with the levy, and see what you pay on a hospital bill under the 25% employer co-payment.
MOM requires medical insurance for inpatient care and day surgery with an annual claim limit of at least S$60,000, and personal accident insurance with a sum assured of at least S$60,000. Both must be bought before your helper arrives.
Since 1 July 2023, for claim amounts above S$15,000, insurers pay 75% and employers 25%. Bills up to S$15,000 are covered by the insurer within the policy's terms.
No. MOM says employers must bear all costs of maintaining their helper, including medical costs, and you may not make her pay any medical expenses, whether within or above what insurance pays.
S$5,000 for each helper, except Malaysian helpers, as a banker's or insurer's guarantee. It is usually discharged a week after your helper leaves Singapore.
If you or your helper break a Work Permit or bond condition, you do not pay her salary on time, you do not send her home when her permit ends, or she goes missing.
S$300 a month for the first helper, S$450 for each further helper, and S$60 at the concessionary rate, by MOM's levy page updated 8 July 2026.
Policies now use standard exclusion clauses, premiums are set in two age bands (50 and below, above 50), and insurers pay hospitals directly once a claim is admitted.
Premiums depend on the insurer and plan, so enter your own quote. The calculator adds it to the levy and any bond premium for your yearly cost.
