Frequently asked questions

What is the Matched Retirement Savings Scheme?

A CPF scheme where the government matches cash top-ups to a member's Retirement Account dollar for dollar, up to S$2,000 a year and S$20,000 in a lifetime. It helps seniors with lower savings.

Who is eligible for MRSS in 2026?

Singapore Citizens aged 55 and above with RA savings below S$110,200, average monthly income up to S$4,000, a home with an Annual Value up to S$21,000 and at most one property. From 2026, Singaporeans with disabilities of any age also qualify.

Is there still an upper age limit?

No. The limit of 70 was removed from 2025, so members above 70 can get the grant if they meet the other conditions.

How much is the MRSS grant?

S$1 for every S$1 of cash top-up, up to S$2,000 a year. A S$600 top-up earns S$600 and a S$2,000 top-up earns S$2,000. The lifetime cap is S$20,000.

Do I need to apply for MRSS?

No. CPF checks eligibility every year from the previous year's data and tells eligible members by end February. Anyone can then top up the member's account.

When is the grant credited?

Generally by end February of the following year, into the Retirement Account, or the Special Account for members below 55. Top up by PayNow by 31 December, or set up GIRO by 31 October.

Can I get tax relief on an MRSS top-up?

Not on the part that attracts the grant. Top-ups above the S$2,000 matched each year may still qualify for CPF cash top-up relief of up to S$8,000.

Does the MRSS grant count towards the Basic Retirement Sum?

The grant is retirement savings in the RA, so it raises the member's CPF LIFE payouts. A member whose RA savings reach S$110,200 stops qualifying in later years.
