Frequently asked questions

What is the S$80,000 personal income tax relief cap?

IRAS caps the total of all personal reliefs you claim at S$80,000 for each Year of Assessment. It has applied since YA2018. Reliefs above the cap are disregarded and cannot be transferred to anyone else.

Which reliefs count towards the S$80,000 cap?

All of them: CPF relief, Earned Income Relief, NSman relief, Spouse, Child, Working Mother's Child, Parent, Grandparent Caregiver and Sibling reliefs, Life Insurance Relief, SRS relief and CPF Cash Top-up Relief. Donations are a deduction, not a relief, so they sit outside the cap.

What can I do if my reliefs are over the cap?

IRAS suggests giving up shareable reliefs such as Qualifying Child Relief, Parent Relief and Grandparent Caregiver Relief so your spouse or siblings can claim them, if they qualify. Working Mother's Child Relief cannot be moved.

Do I get my SRS money back if the cap makes the relief useless?

No. IRAS says there is no refund of SRS contributions, so check your room under the cap before you contribute.

How much is SRS relief for YA2026?

Up to S$15,300 for Singapore Citizens and PRs and S$35,700 for foreigners, for contributions made by 31 December 2025.

How much CPF cash top-up relief can I claim?

Up to S$8,000 for top-ups to your own account and S$8,000 for family members, S$16,000 in all. From YA2026, top-ups that attract a Matched Retirement Savings Scheme grant get no relief.

Which reliefs lapsed recently?

Course Fees Relief lapsed from YA2026 and Foreign Domestic Worker Levy Relief from YA2025.

How much tax does an extra S$1,000 of relief save?

It saves S$1,000 times your top tax rate, as long as you are under the cap. At a 7% top rate that is S$70; over the cap it is nothing.
